A few hours ago, an update for iPhone and iPad arrived on the App Store. It solves the urgent issues discussed throughout the past two weeks and addresses a few minor areas as well:

  • Restores normal operation on devices running iOS 4
  • Fixes the issues related to formatted documents (documents not being saved properly)
  • Resolves an issue with global background color settings
  • No more black cells in move and jump list
  • Corrected too strict passcode protection (documents were hidden even when protection was turned off in settings)
  • No accidental autosync for unzipped documents
  • plist files no longer sync when setting is off
  • “Default document Type” is used in shortcut for book’s add menu
  • Fix for crash after moving last formatted document away from a book
  • Added option to set maximum zoom scale for images (Write & Edit > Picture Size)
  • Improved display of recorded voice memos
  • Added new background color for done tasks
  • Reliably show window for adding photos from album

Thank you all for providing feedback and helping us fix those issues we could never reproduce ourselves.
And of course, sorry to all those who were affected.

Running on iOS 4.2.1 (iPhone) I have trouble synchronizing using DropBox: The Safari dialog appears, correct user id and password are entered, access is allowed and Notebooks reappears. Unfortunately the login to DropBox did not succeed (without error message) and one could try again without success. Note that this issue does not appear on an iPad running the latest iOS 5.x and neither on an iPod touch running iOS 5.x. This is very unfortunate as synchronizing with the iPhone would be extremely useful …

      Hi Peter,

Have you already tried to shut down and restart your iPhone? This should fix the issue.

        Hi Alfons,

thanks for the suggestion. I tried it but the login to DropBox still does not succeed (DropBox account and password are ok). Might still be related to iOS 4.2.1 or Safari?

    Hi Alfons!
Thanks for this amazing app, it’s truly indispensable to me and my trusted GTD app for the last year.
I loved the v. 5 and I was so happy about the voice memos feature.
Then, when I tried to make a voice memo, I wasn’t that happy anymore because they’re not working properly on my 4S.
Can you help me to find what’s wrong?
    Thanks a lot
    Fabs

      Hi Fabs,

we have seen that voice memos don’t always reliably work. To be honest, we have not been able to find a logical explanation, it just seems that the iOS is unable to prepare and start a recording session. – Could it be that another app on your iPhone blocks audio recording?

We keep investigating, and version 5.0.2 (currently on its way to the App Store) will at least issue an alert instead of getting stuck or crash…

But I hope you like “the rest” of Notebooks 😉

      Best,
      Alfons

    Alfons,

Is NB 5.0.1 working with the first beta release of iOS 6.0? I’m thinking of testing the release, but not if NB won’t work (too important). Thanks.

      Hi Steve,

There are a few issues with popup menus when using Notebooks 5.0.1 on iOS 6, which keep you from creating new entries or performing actions with documents. Strange that something that worked without any hiccups so far suddenly stops working…
So I would not recommend to update your productive device to iOS at this moment.

Notebooks 5.0.2 is on its way to the App Store, but it will still have the same issue (we sent that update to Apple before the new iOS appeared), but after that, Notebooks will run fine on iOS 6. We’ll post about that here.

      Best,
      Alfons
