This is a quick bug fixing release to take care of a few glitches we did not notice in time.

Corrections

  • Users who are currently not logged in to Dropbox through Notebooks can now successfully log in.
  • Changing the order of books and documents in custom sort order works as expected.
  • The links to the Quickstart Guide and Handbook in the pre-installed documentation works as expected.
  • The timestamp format which was replaced in the previous update is available again.

We apologize for any inconvenience that these issues may have caused and thank the users who have pointed them out.

Since the last update, I have encountered the following problem:
I use a iPad Pro with iOS 10.3.2. I have the latest Notebooks version
When I request a Dropbox sync on some of my biggest books (6GB), the message box cycles with the following messages: Moving…, Requesting …, Preparing… and back to Moving…
Before the update, you could see the index incrementing in the message box, now nothing is shown. The cycle does not end most of the time. But once in a while when I try to sync the cycle interrupts and Notebooks shuts down.
When I try to sync small books, I see a new message: Requesting local index? But the sync process works.
When I do a quick Dropbox sync on individual items in my bigger books, everything seems to work well.

      Hi Daniel,

Notebooks 8.6 uses the new Dropbox sync interface. Now Dropbox no longer delivers all of its contents in one swoop, but instead sends Notebooks “pages” of its index. That is why Notebooks now cycles between “requesting a page” and “preparing the result”, “requesting the next page”, etc. Notebooks does not know how many pages there are, that is why we cannot show a progress indicator in that phase, but depending on the number of documents, that may take a couple of minutes. The “requesting local index” message is new, the stage itself is not; in previous versions the user got no feedback at all, and the progress indicator was “stuck”. So we thought it would be more transparent to tell the user what is happening 😉
The “moving” part should not be repeated, though; so I need to ask: is that really what you get?

The shutdown during sync is not intended and might indicate a memory pressure situation. To find out what exactly causes the problem, would you mind sending me crash log? These are report which iOS creates automatically whenever an app crashes; you find them in the iOS Settings app under Privacy > Analytics > Analytics Data. The entries to look for start with “Notebooks…” and you can copy/paste the contents into an email.

      Best,
      Alfons

I see you have Notebooks 8.6.1. Version 8.6.2 was released a few days ago; does that still crash?

I have sent you the beginning of the crash log. It is actually very long. When I paste it in the form I cannot send the form and I get an “unused” page.

I will try to send you the rest of the log via regular gmail
