With Notebooks 10 just around the corner, we have decided to remove the paid version of Notebooks 8 from the App Store. Christmas is clearly not the ideal time for that move, but our plan to finalize Notebooks 10 in time did not work out, and we need a little more time for testing and hammering out a few rough edges.

We will offer a pre order option for Notebooks 10 as soon as we can, and that will be the perfect opportunity for you to get Notebooks 10 at a discounted upgrade price. – We will keep you posted…

By the way: the free version of Notebooks 8 is still available, in case you want to try out Notebooks.

I just bought notebooks 8 a few weeks ago for iPad and Mac. Do I have to pay now again?

For the iPad, yes. We will have an introductory offer so existing don’t need to pay the full price. There is no other option on the App Store,
      – apart from switching to a subscription model, which we try to avoid…

        Hi Alfons,

i understand that you guys need to earn money for your good work. However removing a complete version that was buyable before is not the best option i think. For example look at the app Good Notes. They didn’t remove Version 4 when 5 was published.

What about the Mac Version? Doesn’t iterate to 10? Bought it few weeks before for 33 bucks.

          Hi Markus,

removing Notebooks 8 before Notebooks 10 is available was not our idea originally. However, we had to remove Notebooks 8 from sale now due to an expired license agreement… That said, in our context is would not make sense to keep both, Notebooks 8 and Notebooks 10 on the App Store. Moreover, I think Apple would consider that spam…

The Mac version uses an independent numbering scheme. It received a major upgrade in summer, so there won’t be any paid upgrade for that now.

Phew! When I couldn’t update the app because it was no longer available on the App Store, I nearly blew a gasket! This is the best and my favorite and most important app. Glad it’s getting better and not going away and it sounds like desktops versions are now available or just around the corner? Happy holidays Notebooks! You are the bomb!

      Hi Jay,

Users who purchased Notebooks 8 should still be able to access and update it, even though we removed it from sale (so it can no longer be purchased). Doesn’t that work for you?

Desktop versions have already been available for a while – since 2014, actually – and Notebooks for Mac received a major update past summer.

I am glad to hear you are enjoying Notebooks!

      Happy Holidays!
      Alfons

        Hi Alfons,

the iPad Version is completely hidden in the App-Store. What if purchased and changing the device, then it wouldn’t be available for use?

          Hi Markus,

isn’t it listed in your “purchased items”?

No code, just follow the guidelines described in the TestFlight email that we sent you. – Didn’t you receive it?

Dear Alfons, regarding testing Notebooks 10: wonderful to have the opportunity to help you and to faint first insights. It looks great!

    Two questions:

    1) can you please give some guidance on how to test it? What do you need us to do?

    2) when having bought and updated Notebooks 10 can I still use Notebooks 8 on my iPhone / iPad? Would be nice, to have two instances of notebooks, one for work / one for private.

    Much love, Palden.

      Hi Palden,

      1) a general introduction and a list of most important changes is part of the “welcome” email for TestFlight users. With that in mind, just use Notebooks 10 in your daily routine…

      2) Yes, Notebooks 8 and 10 can run side by side; they can share the same set of documents, but you can also set them up to use separate sets and sync with different services locations.

      Best,
      Alfons

I pre-ordered. Not so much for the newer version, I love the old one, but mostly because you did not go to a subscription model. THANK YOU! And yes, I yelled that.
